Whats in News

18-Dec-2024

Lapata ladies is out of the race of Oscars.

Though it was India's official submission, it was not shortlisted by the academy. This is for the best international feature film category.

Are we submitting the best movies or just the ones with more appeal - due to budget or big star power?

All we imagine as light has been getting international awards but was not our nomination. National award winning file Aattam also was ignored!

The Movie Aattam

The other day Indian National Awards for cinema were announced and the Malayalam film Aattam bagged the award for the best movie.

No surprises there, since it is the era of South Indian films. They are getting bigger and finding more space both on the international and national scene.

Also it is no surprise that a Malayali movie should have got the award. I find Malayalam cinema to be among the best, if not the best, in the world. But more about that some other time.

Talking about Aattam. Like many other Malayali movies, this too is a women centric story. Not as much as a movie with a lady being the central character but a story around a lady, but with all the other characters also occupying a lot of screen space.

Enough for now. I am writing after a long break. Will try to find words and articulate what I liked about the movie.

Azhar's ban

The Azharuddin issue has left me a little perturbed and confused. A player at the national level goes ahead and accepts bribe to loose games for the country and we still continue to treat him with all respect possible. If that was not enough BCCI even has the gall to think of revoking the life long ban upon the player. While the country watches on BCCI and ICC wrangle over the issue.
We all know how well our cricketers earn. I am sure Azhar had a good kitty too, what with him being the captain of team india. Inspite of such benefits a national hero chooses to accept money to let his country down.
This is a very serious crime. If I put it bluntly - anti-national.
What could be the possible reason for BCCI's interest in revoking the ban? Is Azhar close to the new gaurd at BCCI? I dont think he is in a state to be able to start playing again.
Whats cooking? Isnt BCCI answerable to the nation? How long can they keep playing the card of being an autonomous body, and continue to hold the nation and its favourite game to ransom?
Why is the national media ignoring the issue?
Wonder!! Wonder!!
